In talking about local business, town manager Katrina Tatum said furniture manufacturer Jess Crate is looking for people to fill a number of openings.

“They have 20 jobs they need to fill immediately,” Tatum said. “If you know of anybody looking for a job, call them at their office and make an appointment (to) fill out an application.”

Mayor Earl Poplin hopes the jobs can be filled locally.

“I would like to see those 20 jobs filled with people in Mount Gilead, enough for (Jess Crate) to not have to go outside the town limits to fill them,” said Poplin. “There are a lot of people that need those jobs.”

According to information supplied by the company, Jess Crate uses local yellow pine in the production of solid wood furniture, with specialty products designed for use in homes, offices, residential facilities, dorms, camps and other locations.

Jess Crate is located at 100 Industry Ave., Mount Gilead, in a building that previously housed the office of Jordan Lumber. Information on the job openings is available at 910-439-4102, 910-975-8055 or 267-231-1588.
