Stanly County authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy before closing the case of Jaquarious Kendall.
The 17-year-old Albemarle High School student was reported missing Jan. 25. The car he was driving was found near the Garrison Bridge on Hwy. 24/27 on Jan. 26, and an extensive search of the surrounding land and water followed.
Sources say a resident near Swift Island Rd. at Lake Tillery called the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office Tue., Mar. 10, around 8:30 a.m. to report the discovery of a body in the water near a boat dock. Investigators believe the body is Kendall’s, but they are waiting for the autopsy report to confirm the victim’s identity and cause of death.
The discovery was made about 400 yds. from the location of the car, and Sheriff’s Capt. Brian Hatley told the Stanly News & Press Tuesday there were “no signs of any foul play”.
In mid-February, Kendall’s 17-year-old girlfriend told the paper Kendall “threatened to kill himself because she was ending the relationship.” At that time, authorities confirmed they suspected Kendall committed suicide, possibly by jumping from the bridge.
Subsequent searches of the water by state and federal sonar teams and as many as 19 different divers failed to produce any results.
