Dozens of local folks took to the streets Sat., Mar. 28, as part of a downtown cleanup effort organized as part of Mount Gilead’s One Community initiative.
Citizens divided into teams and worked to remove debris from streets, sidewalks and right-of-ways along Main Street and on connecting side streets, as time allowed. Local Girl Scouts were among those participating.
Volunteers collected several pickup loads of trash, which was hauled to local landfill convenience sites.
A stretch of Hwy. 109 north of town was also cleaned Saturday by an Adopt-a-Highway team organized by Leon Turner and sponsored by Rover Shop II.
One Community is an initiative of the Mount Gilead Economic Development Council. “Instilling Pride” is the name of the One Community committee that has taken up the town’s appearance as part of its agenda. The committee is co-chaired by Kenna Feis and Florence Leake, and more information is available at 910-439-5600.
