STARworks will host its annual FireFest event Apr. 3-4. The popular festival celebrates the role of fire in the creation of art, using glass, metal and clay.
Featured glass artists are the De La Torre Brothers, and ceramic artist Carol Gentithes has been invited to create a clay sculpture. Liberty Arts Non-Profit Foundry & Sculpture Studio of Durham will conduct an iron pour.
All guest artists will hold slide shows and participate in finale events involving fire.
FireFest will start Fri., Apr. 3, at 1 p.m., and continue at 10 a.m. Sat., Apr. 4. There will be live music both evenings, and the event will culminate with the firing of the final piece Saturday from 8:30 to 10 p.m. There is an admission fee, and more information is available at 910-428-9001 or online at starworksnc.org.
The National Endowment for the Arts last year granted $10,000 to support this year’s FireFest.
