Organizers have announced a fund raising concert this weekend to benefit a local minister.
Roger Thomas is the part-time pastor of First Baptist Church in Mount Gilead, and he was critically injured in an automobile accident in late December. Sunday, he returned to the pulpit at First Baptist, and he is resuming his full-time work as executive director of Stanly Community Christian Ministries in Albemarle.
Following his wreck, Thomas had a lengthy hospital stay and multiple surgeries, including a partial leg amputation.
The public is invited to the concert, Sun., Apr. 12, at 4:30 p.m. at New London United Methodist Church in Stanly County. The program will feature Charlotte Maness on piano and Carmella and Tim Hedrick on clarinet and flute. Donations will be received to help Thomas with expenses.
The artists are well known in the area for their years in church music and music education. They have also been associated with Thomas through participation in the Uwharrie Players, on whose board he serves.
