Funeral services will be held Friday for an Asheboro man killed Sat. night, May 23, near the Garrison Bridge.
59-year-old Philip Ray Ledwell was driving a 2005 Honda Shadow motorcycle east on N.C. Hwy. 24/27 from Stanly County. As Ledwell left the bridge shortly before 10 p.m., headed into Montgomery County, a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer turned left into his path from N.C. Hwy. 73.
The motorcycle struck the truck, and Ledwell was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Trailblazer was driven by 41-year-old Christopher Dennis Chapman of Pageland, S.C., who was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to yield. Chapman and his passenger were not injured, and both were reported to have been wearing seat belts.
North Carolina State Trooper Josh Barker told media alcohol was not involved in the accident and that Ledwell’s helmet was not approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
