The Mount Gilead Police Department has resumed full-time responsibility for law enforcement in the town.
Town officials had contracted with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for coverage following the resignation of some officers and the April departure of former chief Ralph Vieux. Now, under the leadership of interim police chief Pat Preslar, local police are again able to carry out the day-to-day operations of the department.
The changeover took place at 6 a.m. Monday.
Earlier this month, Preslar thanked citizens for their “support and patience” during what he called a period of “reorganization” in the department. He also expressed his thanks to Sheriff Chris Watkins and deputies for providing law enforcement coverage over the past several months.
