UPDATE: The Stanly News & Press reported Oct. 8 the game time was changed at the request of the Albemarle Police Department “to avoid the cover of darkness as a way to provide more effective security.” Click here to see the full article on the Stanly News & Press website.
The time for the Oct. 9 varsity football game between West Montgomery and Albemarle High Schools has been moved to 4:30 p.m. The Oct. 8 junior varsity game was also rescheduled.
No official word has been issued on the reason for the change, but sources tell WMTG the earlier game time is the result of a threat of violence at the contest, which will be played at Albemarle.
We continue to try to find the official reason for the changes, but messages left for the athletic directors of both schools and the Albemarle Police Department have gone unanswered so far.
A scheduling conflict prevents us from airing the varsity game on WMTG, but John Inman’s play-by-play coverage will start with the pre-game show Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. and can be heard online by clicking here.
