Mount Gilead Town Commissioners have named an interim town manager. Justin Price was selected for the position at the Oct. 13 meeting of commissioners.
According to a LinkedIn profile, Price served three years as assistant town manager and planning director for the Town of Troy and, most recently, has been town manager in the Rowan County town of Granite Quarry.
In June, the Salisbury Post reported Price resigned his position in Granite Quarry after serving the town for only eight months. Granite Quarry Mayor William Feather told the Post Price’s initial probationary period had been extended three months and, when the manager’s contract was up for renewal at the start of a new fiscal year, he and the town “parted ways”.
Feather cited “differences in management styles between Price and the board (of aldermen)” and said Price received a lump sum severance package worth more than $14,000 at the time of his resignation.
Justin Price did his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his Master of Public Administration degree from Appalachian State University in 2010.
Mayor Earl Poplin said Price would begin work in Mount Gilead in about two weeks.
Town Clerk Mary Lucas has been the acting town manager since the Aug. 28 resignation of former manager Katrina Tatum.
