Mt. Gilead Medical Services operating on temporary short schedule

Some local folks have raised concern about a reduction in office hours at Mt. Gilead Medical Services.

The facility on Main Street is operated by the Charlotte-based Carolinas HealthCare System and staffed by Physician Assistant Dale Patterson.

Kevin McCarthy of Carolinas HealthCare told WMTG yesterday the change in hours is temporary and resulted from the loss of a physician at Norwood Medical Services, which is also operated by CHS. McCarthy said the organization is actively seeking another physician for the Norwood practice, but Dale Patterson is now splitting time between the two offices.

For now, the Mount Gilead office is open Tuesday and Thursday only, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed for lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.).

Carolinas HealthCare said patients wishing to see Patterson on other days are welcome to visit Norwood Medical Services, 269 S. Main St. (Hwy. 52), Norwood, across from the elementary school. The Norwood office is also operating on a temporary short schedule, open Monday, Wednesday and Friday only, and can be reached by phone at 704-474-3171.

  1. I am glad to see this but feel it should have come thru Carolinas HealthCare first. A letter or email prior to the changes would have gone a long way to relieve concerns. I do indeed hope it is temporary as both towns need (and deserve) fulltime medical services.
