Extradition sought for Shuping murder suspects captured in Arizona

Authorities with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are working to extradite two suspects in the New Year’s murder of Joseph Shuping of Montgomery County.

19-year-old Ruban Saldana Gonzalez and 18-year-old Jose Sauceda Lara were arrested Friday night, according to information obtained from the Cochise County, Arizona Sheriff’s Office. The Douglas (Ariz.) Dispatch reports the pair were attempting to enter the U.S. on foot at the border crossing in Douglas when guards discovered they were wanted on fugitive warrants.

At last word, the men, both from Robbins, N.C., were being held in the Cochise County Jail pending the outcome of extradition proceedings aimed at bringing them back to North Carolina.

19-year-old Glenn Hogan of Troy and 21-year-old Marvin Peterkin of Mount Gilead were previously arrested in connection with the murder of Shuping, who lived in the Jackson Springs area in southeastern Montgomery County.
